On or about April 4, 2017, while employed as a Staff Nurse in a medical facility in Houston, the RN failed to implement admission orders for a patient after the patient’s transfer from the Emergency Room; physician-ordered neurological assessments were not performed and STAT lab specimens were not collected.
The RN’s conduct resulted in a delay of care and was likely to injure the patient from subsequent care decisions made without the benefit of reliable information.
Because of this, a complaint was filed against the RN.
The Texas Board of Nursing has full jurisdiction over all cases regarding errors committed by an RN or LVN. Thus, she was called by the Board to defend against the case.
During the hearing, the RN states admission orders were not implemented as she had not been informed during orientation that said orders were required to be implemented.
The following incident and defense against the case caused the Texas Board of Nursing to place the RN and her license into disciplinary proceedings. She would have sought assistance from a good nurse attorney to provide clarifications towards the case.
