A Nurse can face a lot of accusations, allegation cases, or complaints cases and they will face the Texas Board of Nursing to formally follow procedures. One of the common complaints and accusations is about failure to administer the correct dosage or medicine to a patient. But if a nurse is experiencing such circumstances, a nurse attorney can be their defense and can assist them in dealing with the cases they are facing
At the time of the initial incident, the RN was employed as a Registered Nurse at a hospital in Dallas, Texas, and had been in that position for twenty-five (25) years.
It was on or about March 12, 2017, when an RN failed to administer Labetalol 20 mg as ordered to a patient, who had a blood pressure of 198/93 and a subsequent blood pressure of 171/80. The physician’s order was to administer Labetalol for systolic blood pressure greater than 160. The RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient in that failure to administer medications as ordered by the physician could have resulted in the non-efficacious treatment of the patient’s high blood pressure.
On or about March 12, 2017, and again, the RN failed to timely administer Piperacillin, an antibiotic, as ordered to the patient, and administered the medication three (3) hours late. The RN’s conduct exposed the patient to a risk of harm in that failure to administer medications as ordered by the physician could have resulted in the non-efficacious treatment of the patient’s condition.
On or about March 22, 2017, also the RN failed to administer Metoprolol as ordered for the patient and failed to notify the physician that the RN was holding the medication dose. The RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient in that failure to administer medications as ordered by the physician could have resulted in the non-efficacious treatment of the patient’s high blood pressure level.
As a result, the RN’s unprofessional conduct constitutes ground for disciplinary action as decided by the Board. But more consequences will follow once the RN shows non-compliance. The RN has to face the consequences of her actions as she failed to hire a nurse attorney for this case.
