A nurse’s duty is to provide the care needed by patients and see to it that patients get the right and best treatment they deserve while they are on their recovery journey. At the time of the initial incident, an RN was employed as a Registered Nurse at a hospital in Edinburg, Texas, and had been in that position for thirty-three (33) years.

An incident happened on or about March 23, 2017, through March 27, 2017, when the RN failed to intervene when a patient had a blood pressure of 87/48. Additionally, the RN failed to reassess the patient’s blood pressure for approximately five (5) hours after the abnormal reading. The RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient from a delay in treatment for the low blood pressure.

On or about March 24, 2017, the RN failed to intervene when a patient had a temperature of 103.6. The RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient by depriving the physician of vital information that would be required to institute timely medical interventions to stabilize the patient’s temperature.

On or about March 27, 2017, the RN failed to notify the physician when a patient, was experiencing uncontrolled pain throughout the RN’s shift, despite administration of pain medication. The RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient from a delay in treatment for the pain experienced.

Therefore, due to the RN’s unprofessional conduct, the RN was put into disciplinary action by the Board. The basis of the Board’s decision was from the evidence presented which is pursuant to Section 301.452(b)(10)&(13), Texas Occupations Code.
