Losing your license may greatly affect your future career, but only if you failed to hire a nurse attorney for your case. There are some RNs and LVNs who missed their chances to get their license saved from revocation just because they weren’t able to hire a skilled nurse attorney to properly defend them.
On or about April 16, 2018 while employed as a Staff Nurse in a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, the LVN failed to ensure the availability of Ativan, as ordered for a patient as-needed for seizures, after she administered the last dose and the medication ran out.
Subsequently, staff reported seizure activity, there was no Ativan available, and the LVN administered an injection of normal saline instead of Ativan. Her conduct was deceptive and exposed the patient to a risk of harm from a lack of emergency medicine.
The RN was given the chance to defend herself and denied all the accusations and cases filed against her. The LVN states that on the day of the incident, she was working with another LVN who yelled from the patient’s room for the patient to get Ativan during pill pass. She states that she went into the med room and was shocked to find no Ativan M in the medroom, or in the ER box.
The LVN further states that she panicked knowing the patient’s mother had problems in the past with other facilities not having the Ativan when needed. She states that when she went into the patient’s room, the patient was having no seizure-like activity. She states that a seizure, she panicked and gave a shot of normal saline to the patient.
She states that the patient had no seizure-like activity during the rest of the shift or the weekend when she was working. The LVN states that she regrets this horrible decision every day, and has learned so much from this experience.
However, without enough evidence to support her case and a nurse attorney to help her, she was discipline. Thus, the Texas Board of Nursing subjected her license for revocation.
Because of this, the RN has been subjected for discipline.
