Whenever someone filed a complaint against you involving negligence at work, your license could be put in danger if not defended by a nurse attorney. An LVN from Dallas, Texas is just one of the many examples of nurses who found to be negligent while on duty.
On or about September 25, 2017, an LVN from Dallas appropriately utilize a backboard or place a patient on the floor while Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) compressions were being performed. The backboard was available on the crash cart, which was delivered to the patient’s room during the code. CPR was stopped as directed by the resident’s responsible party, who was present, and the resident was pronounced deceased by the facility’s RN Assistant Director of Nursing.
The LVN’s conduct unnecessarily exposed the patient to a risk of harm from possibly ineffective CPR compressions.
Because of this, the LVN was summoned by the Texas Board of Nursing to defend her side. During the hearing, the LVN states a staff member informed the charge nurse that the patient stopped breathing. She further states while the charge nurse was assessing the resident for signs of life, she turned off the feeding pump and lowered the head of the bed to a flat position. The LVN states the charge nurse started chest compressions. The LVN further states she asked the charge nurse if she wanted to stop to place backboard under the patient, which she refused.
However, the Board states that her conduct unnecessarily exposed the patient to a risk of harm from possibly ineffective CPR compressions.
Furthermore, the LVN failed to hire a nurse attorney to help her with her case. Because of this, the Texas Board of Nursing suspended and disciplined the LVN.
